As I prepare to leave for the 2009 GCA Holiday Tour next week in Cleveland, Ohio, I’m…well, I’m getting into the Christmas spirit a bit early.
Just like I have for the past two years. It’s hard not to!

It’s all started earlier this year. Holiday advertising and talk of how to prepare and make. everything. just. perfect. — I wrote about it in this week’s Retail Report newsletter, the Christmas creep.

I subscribe to the National Retail Federation’s SmartBrief newsletter, which comes every few days, and this morning read a really wonderful story in from the New York Times about the positive ad campaigns some big retailers are rolling out with for the holidays.

That’s really something I can get behind. Even if those commercials and print ads are still trying to sell a product, it’s not just “DEALS! DEALS! DEALS!”
It’s about the true spirit of the holiday season. Cheer and gratitude and giving, even if it’s small.

Love it.
And can’t wait to see how the garden center’s on this year’s GCA Holiday Tour are embracing the spirit and getting their customers excited about Christmas. Stay tuned for updates throughout my trip to Ohio.
Cleveland rocks!
